The role of fillings

Fillings are common dental procedures used to repair the function and appearance of damaged teeth. Whether it’s decay, fractures, or wear, these treatments restore the tooth’s integrity and prevent further dental issues.

Choosing the right material

Fillings and restorations come in various materials, including amalgam, composite, and porcelain. Your dentist will help you choose the best option based on the tooth’s location, extent of decay, and aesthetic considerations.

The filling procedure explained

The process involves removing decayed or damaged tooth material, cleaning the affected area, and then filling or covering the tooth with the chosen material. These procedures are typically completed in one visit, with little to no discomfort.

Why dental fillings might be needed

Improving oral health and aesthetics.

  • Decay Removal: Fillings are primarily used to repair cavities and remove decay.
  • Aesthetic Enhancement: Modern materials provide a natural look, enhancing your smile’s appearance.
  • Strength and Durability: High-quality materials ensure long-lasting results and tooth functionality.
  • Prevent Further Decay: Sealing off areas where bacteria enter, reducing the risk of future cavities.

Aftercare for fillings and restorations

Proper aftercare is crucial to ensure the longevity of your dental work. This includes maintaining good oral hygiene, avoiding hard or sticky foods initially, and attending regular dental check-ups to monitor the restorations.

Single Tooth Anesthetic & Nitrous Oxide

We offer various options for comfort so that the care is tailored to each child’s needs.

Single Tooth Anesthetic

When it comes to going to the dentist, we understand that you may feel some anxiety and have tailored our practice to meet your needs. Our office is proud to offer the Wand STA Single Tooth Anesthesia System, making your dental experience as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

What is the The Wand® STA?

Many types of dental treatments rely on anesthetic injections, but if you’re not comfortable receiving injections, it may mean that your treatment cannot be completed. STA Single Tooth Anesthetic System using the Wand hand-piece is a computer-controlled dental injection system and one of the most efficient ways to numb an area because of its slow, steady delivery of anesthetic. This also means less discomfort for you as most of the sting from an injection comes from the solution being delivered too quickly. You can be reassured that at our office your comfort is our top priority.

Innovative, advanced, patient-friendly design

The Wand looks more like a pen than a syringe, and the needle at its tip is very small and discreet. With the aid of state-of-the-art technology, the Wand delivers exactly the anesthetic you need at exactly the right rate, so you have nothing to fear about how well it works. We are dedicated to creating an optimum experience for every aspect of your dental care. Please contact our office to learn more about the Wand STA Single Tooth Anesthesia System and how you can get the dental health you’ve always wanted, anxiety-free.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, also known as “laughing gas,” is a safe and effective way to help children relax during dental procedures. It is the most frequently used method for easing mild to moderate anxiety in children.

What is nitrous oxide in pediatric dentistry?

Nitrous oxide and oxygen are administered for dental treatment requiring local anesthetic. The benefit of “laughing gas” is to prevent children from seeing or feeling the local anesthetic and to reduce the vibration felt from the handpiece. It also allows us to complete some treatment without using local anesthetic.

How we use nitrous oxide in our office

The child lies down and is wide awake in the chair. The nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas,” is administered through a small mask that fits over your child’s nose as an effective way to calm anxiety. Your child will be asked to breathe through his or her nose and not through their mouth. As the gas begins to work, your child will become calm, although he or she will still be awake and able to talk with the dentist.

They may laugh, feel like they are floating, or have a tingling feeling in their fingers or toes. At the end of your child’s appointment, he or she will resume breathing regular oxygen, and all the effects of nitrous oxide will disappear. As your child gets older and becomes more comfortable during dental visits, nitrous oxide may not be necessary. There are very few contraindications for using nitrous oxide. Please ask your pediatric dentist if you have concerns.
