Meet Dr. Laura Kottemann

Dr. Laura Kottemann grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. She traveled to South Bend, Indiana to earn her undergraduate degree at the University of Notre Dame (Go Irish!).

Dr. Laura had two passions that she considered pursuing. She thought it would be fun to become a meteorologist or a reporter for a local news station. She was also fascinated by medicine and inspired by the kindness of her own pediatric dentist growing up.

So, Dr. Laura did the next best thing: enjoyed both for a while!

She was Editor-in-Chief of her high school newspaper and wrote for the student newspaper at the University of Notre Dame. One of her highlights was interviewing Father Ted Hesburgh, the longtime President of Notre Dame, after he was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal by President Bill Clinton.

Dr. Laura attended dental school at Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health in Mesa, Arizona. She served as the Editor-in-Chief for ASDA (American Student Dental Association) publications and oversaw its monthly newsletter and quarterly journal. Upon graduation from dental school, she was inducted in the OKU National Dental Honor Society and served on the Editorial Board of JADA. Dr. Laura says journalism sharpened her ability to communicate, something that's essential with her young patients and families.

Following dental school, Dr. Laura, and her husband (a MN native), moved back to Minnesota where she continued her dental education and completed her specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Minnesota. She practiced at Riverdale KIDDS Pediatric Dentistry in Coon Rapids, Minnesota for nearly twelve years and is thrilled to be joining the Tailwind family. Her husband, Dr. Kraig Kottemann, is an orthodontist practicing in the western suburbs.
